10th Assembly: Opposition Lawmakers-Elect Set to Meet Tinubu
The planned meeting, between the President, Bola Tinubu and Lawmakers Elect which is coming about a week before the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly, has been scheduled for the State House.
Barring any last-minute change, President Bola Tinubu is to meet with opposition National Assembly lawmakers-elect on Monday.
This is according to an invitation letter dated June 2 and signed by the Permanent Secretary in the State House, Tijjani Umar on Sunday.
In the letter, the President would meet the Senators-elect at 3:00 pm, while his meeting with the House of Representatives-elect is slated for 5:00 pm.
Umar asked the soon-to-be lawmakers to submit their names for security clearance.
His statement reads: “I write to inform you that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will hold a meeting with members of the opposition Senators-elect and opposition House of Representatives members-elect in the State House Conference Centre, Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday, 5th June 2023 at 15:00 hours and 1700 hours respectively,” the notice read.
“In this regard, you are kindly requested to inform all concerned members to attend and forward their list early enough for security clearance. Please, accept the assurances of the President’s highest consideration.”
However, the details of the meeting are not clear. It may be connected to the process that will produce presiding officers of the incoming National Assembly.
Earlier, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) nominated the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, as Senate President and the senator representing Kano North, Barau Jibrin, as his deputy.
In the House, the party selected a lawmaker from Kaduna, Tajudeen Abbas as Speaker, and Benjamin Kalu, a lawmaker from Imo as deputy.

New Year Forgiveness: Akpabio Withdraws Defamation Suits Against Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Others
Akpabio gave the directive touched by a sermon given by Father Donatus, Udoette, the Parish Priest, Sacred Heart Parish , Uyo, during the New Year Mass.
The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has directed his lawyers to withdraw all ongoing defamation lawsuits against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who alleged sexual harassment, and several individuals.
Akpabio gave the directive touched by a sermon given by Father Donatus, Udoette, the Parish Priest, Sacred Heart Parish , Uyo, during the New Year Mass.
Akpabio said ,“I had almost nine cases in court against some individuals who defamed me, who lied against me, who slandered my name.
“But I listened to the priest and suddenly realised he was talking to me, so I hereby direct my solicitors to withdraw all lawsuits against them.”
In his homily the Priest said that the greatest thing that man needs is peace and admonished parishioners to live in peace with one another.
“You have to let go of the past, no matter what it was. All of us carry some luggage of pain and hurt. You have to let go if you want to move on,” he said.
With the Thursday’s announcement, Akpabio has formally ended all pending legal disputes arising from defamation claims, signalling closure to the publicised litigations as the year begun.

He was beaten, stripped naked and paraded through the streets of Benin City on allegation of being an ‘Oghionba’ (enemy of the Oba).

In the statement, “The Benin Traditional Council use this medium to inform the general public that the unfortunate incidence in which Pedro Obaseki was manhandled was not authorized by the Oba of Benin.
And it cannot be authorized because it is not in the character of our revered monarch to do so. The Oba of Benin is a peace-loving father to all.
“The Benin Traditional Council also wish to advice our youth not to take the laws into their hands on any issue no matter the degree of provocation.
They should always respect the laws of the land in all actions and utterances and allow appropriate Security Agencies handle all matters.
“Social media users should equally endeavour to cross-check information appropriately before posting.”

Police arrests Kidnappers in “Love Nwantiti” with victims
