NFVCB Approves 304 Nollywood’s New Films
English-language productions dominated the industry with 201 films classified within the period under review. Igbo-language productions accounted for 44 films, while Yoruba recorded 42. Hindi films stood at nine, Hausa productions accounted for five, while Bini-language films recorded three classifications.
The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) declared that it approved and classified 304 films between January and April 2026.
In a statement, Director of Film Censorship and Classification at the board, Deborah Malgwi, said that the figure represented an increase from the 267 films classified during the same period in 2025.
Classification data released by the board shows that January 2026 recorded the highest number of approvals with 102 films, followed by 83 in February, 77 in March and 42 in April.
In comparison, the board classified 25 films in January 2025, 58 in February, 114 in March and 70 in April of the same year.
The statistics also showed that English-language productions dominated the industry with 201 films classified within the period under review. Igbo-language productions accounted for 44 films, while Yoruba recorded 42. Hindi films stood at nine, Hausa productions accounted for five, while Bini-language films recorded three classifications.
Further analysis indicated that most productions fell within the “15” and “18” age categories, reflecting prevailing themes in contemporary film productions.

MultiChoice launches Wethu+ as DStv overhauls packages
Wethu+ combines local drama, movies, telenovelas, reality shows, children’s programmes and educational content in one place, according to MultiChoice.
MultiChoice has launched Wethu+, a new entertainment channel on DStv channel 163.
The channel replaces Mzansi Wethu and pulls together content previously spread across Mzansi Wethu, Mzansi Bioskop and Mzansi Magic Music.
The launch forms part of what the pay-TV operator describes as its biggest package overhaul in nearly two decades, with dedicated Sports and Movies & Series bouquets now on offer.
What Wethu+ will show
Wethu+ combines local drama, movies, telenovelas, reality shows, children’s programmes and educational content in one place, according to MultiChoice.
The line-up also includes international blockbuster movies, dubbed telenovelas and daily news updates.Football is a major part of the offer.
MultiChoice confirmed that Wethu+ will broadcast two Premier Soccer League matches every weekend during the football season.
The company said pairing football with movies, drama and family programming gives subscribers sports and general entertainment on a single channel.

Gov Mbah Appoints Nollywood’s Eucharia Anunobi, Rachael Okonkwo aides
Okonkwo, popularly known as Nkoli Nwa Nsukka, was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Film and Creative Industry Development, while veteran actress Eucharia Anunobi was appointed Special Assistant on Women Mobilisation for Enugu-North Zone.

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has approved the appointment of Nollywood actresses Rachel Okonkwo and Eucharia Anunobi as aides.
Okonkwo, popularly known as Nkoli Nwa Nsukka, was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Film and Creative Industry Development, while veteran actress Eucharia Anunobi was appointed Special Assistant on Women Mobilisation for Enugu-North Zone.
The appointments were contained in a public announcement issued on Monday by the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia.
Mbah approved the appointment of 101 aides across three categories comprising seven Special Advisers, six Senior Special Assistants and 88 Special Assistants.

Madonna Returns To MTV Video Music Awards, After 23 years
She also enters this year’s ceremony with 11 nominations, the highest number received by any artist at the 2026 VMAs.
Madonna is set to return to stage after 23 years, with the pop star scheduled to open the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards ceremony.
The performance is set for Sunday, September 27, 2026, marking Madonna’s first VMAs performance since 2003.
She first appeared at the inaugural ceremony in 1984, when she performed “Like a Virgin,” and has remained closely associated with the awards throughout her career.
Madonna’s return comes as she promotes Confessions II, a follow-up to her 2005 album Confessions on a Dance Floor.
The project has been supported by a series of events known as Club Confessions.
She also enters this year’s ceremony with 11 nominations, the highest number received by any artist at the 2026 VMAs.
Her nominations include Artist of the Year, Video of the Year, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Choreography, Best Art Direction, Best Visual Effects and Best Editing. She is also nominated for Song of the Year and Best Collaboration for “Bring Your Love,” featuring Sabrina Carpenter.
