CUPP advises 10th NASS to prioritize national unity, competency in electing principal officers
The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has urged the newly-elected members of the 10th National Assembly to prioritize national unity, competency, and equity when electing principal officers. In a statement released in Abuja and signed by CUPP’s National Co-Spokesperson, Mr. Mark Adebayo, the group stressed the importance of considering Nigeria’s ethnic and religious diversities in the selection process.
CUPP called on all stakeholders involved in the election of principal officers, especially the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives, to ensure justice prevails and that the decision-making process is transparent. The group emphasized that every region, religion, and leadership capacity must be taken into consideration, in order to create a sense of belonging for all Nigerians.
CUPP also warned against allowing pecuniary factors to determine the outcome of the election, stating that national unity, equity, and leadership capacity should be the central considerations. The group pledged to monitor the process closely to prevent any underhanded dealings that could compromise the peace and unity of the country. Finally, CUPP called for the election of individuals of integrity, competency, undoubted patriotism, and creative leadership credentials as the next set of National Assembly leaders.
