BREAKING: Bola Tinubu Sworn in As President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
Bola Ahmed Tinubu is sworn in today as Nigeria’s 16th President.
Kashim Shettima was also sworn in as the Vice President of Nigeria.
The Oath of Office was performed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kayode Ariwoola, at the Eagle’s Square, Abuja.
Tinubu’s Profile
Tinubu started out as a technocrat; a seasoned accountant.
During his sojourn abroad, he worked for American companies Arthur Andersen, Deloitte, Haskins & Sells and GTE Services Corporation.
And upon his return to Nigeria in 1983, he joined Mobil Oil as an auditor.
He rose through the ranks to become an executive of the company.
He began to make inroads into the political Hall of Fame in 1992 when he was elected senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District in the short-lived third National Assembly.
He then joined forces with the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), a coalition of democrats demanding the military government led by General Sani Abacha to step down for the acclaimed winner of the 12 June 1993 election, the deceased Chief MKO Abiola.
After four years in exile, Tinubu returned to the country in 1998 to contest the governorship election in Lagos – his home state – as Nigeria prepared for a transition to democratic rule.
A two-term governor, Tinubu prides himself as the brain behind the transformation of Lagos from the doldrums to one of the largest economies in Africa.
And so do many of his allies who vigorously campaigned for his presidency based on this accomplishment.
He was behind the creation of the Lagos Free Zone, Ibeju Lekki.

National grid collapses again
Distribution load figures released at 3:12 p.m. on December 29, 2025, showed that electricity supply to the country’s power distribution companies fell drastically, indicating a widespread system failure.
The national electricity grid collapsed again this afternoon with power supply across most parts of the country dropping to near zero.
Distribution load figures released at 3:12 p.m. on December 29, 2025, showed that electricity supply to the country’s power distribution companies fell drastically, indicating a widespread system failure.
Data from the Distribution Companies (DisCos) revealed that only two operators received electricity at the time of the collapse. Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company recorded a load of 30 megawatts (MW), while Abuja Electricity Distribution Company received 20 MW.
All other DisCos were allocated zero megawatts. Benin, Eko, Enugu, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt and Yola electricity distribution companies all recorded 0 MW, pointing to a nationwide outage affecting major cities and regions.
In total, electricity distributed nationwide stood at just 50 MW, far below normal
normal operating levels and grossly insufficient to sustain power supply to homes, businesses and critical services across the country.
The latest incident adds to a series of grid collapses recorded in recent years, which have often resulted in nationwide blackouts and prolonged efforts to restore electricity supply.
The recurring failures have continued to raise concerns about the fragility of Nigeria’s power infrastructure and the reliability of the national grid.
