Update on Fire outbreak at Sapid Container Terminal 2, Mile 2, Lagos; No Casualties Reported
Emergency responders successfully contained a fire outbreak at the No Sapid Container Terminal 2 area in Mile 2 on Saturday, January 24, 2026, with no loss of life or injuries recorded.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Eagle Squad, working alongside the Lagos State Fire Service, LRU Fire, and Nigeria Police, swiftly intervened to prevent the blaze from spreading to neighbouring structures.
According to a situation report issued by LASEMA Permanent Secretary Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the fire originated from a building behind the container terminal where multiple drums of chemicals and oils were stored — a factor that contributed to the intensity and rapid spread of the flames.

While the fire was still raging at the time of the report due to the highly combustible materials involved, joint firefighting efforts continued throughout the day to bring it fully under control.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the extent of property damage or any potential environmental concerns arising from the incident, but the absence of casualties has been attributed to the prompt and coordinated response by the emergency teams.

JAMB: UTME Registration Starts January 26
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has confirmed that registration for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will open nationwide on Monday, January 26, 2026.
In an official announcement released today, JAMB encouraged all prospective candidates to visit accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres as early as possible to complete registration, undergo biometric verification, select preferred examination towns, and avoid congestion toward the close of the window.
Applicants are reminded to come prepared with essential documents: valid O’Level results, National Identification Number (NIN), and a functional personal email address.
The board issued a strong warning against fraudsters and fake websites promising expedited or guaranteed registration slots, stressing that only processes completed through official JAMB-approved channels and accredited centres will be valid.
Additional information including exact registration fees, closing date, mock UTME schedule, and the full examination timetable will be published shortly on the official JAMB portal (www.jamb.gov.ng) and verified social media accounts.
Candidates, parents, and guardians are advised to monitor these official sources closely for authentic updates throughout the registration period.
