The Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have sworn in Mojisola Meranda, representative of Apapa I, as the new speaker.

This follows the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa over allegations of abuse of office and gross misconduct.

Also, members of the Lagos State House of Assembly removed the Clerk, Olalekan Onafeko Onafeko was said to have been singlehandedly brought to the assembly by Obasa.

It was alleged that Obasa and Onafeko Both were behind the ban on journalists covering the activities of the assembly.

Taking her oath of office, Meranda said: “I affirm that I will be faithful as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly;

“That I will perform my functions honestly to the best of my ability, faithfully, and by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, armed personnel of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS; Lagos Task Force, and the Police have taken over the premises and environs.

They turned back motorists and persons from gaining access.

Some miscreants, who were trying to invade the complex, were intercepted and arrested by the security personnel and clamped into waiting Black Maria.

Charms and amulets were also recovered from the miscreants believed to be supporters of Obasa from Agege.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the removal of Mr Saidu Mohammed as the Authority Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

In a State House statement issued on Wednesday signed by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President also approved the nomination of Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as the new Chief Executive of the NMDPRA, with the appointment subject to Senate confirmation.

The decision, according to the statement, was made pursuant to the Petroleum Industry Act 2021 and is aimed at strengthening regulatory effectiveness in the midstream and downstream petroleum sector in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Umar is a seasoned executive with over 25 years of experience across the energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors, and a proven track record in strategic leadership, operational transformation, and large-scale project delivery.

He is a graduate of Accounting from Bayero University and an alumnus of Harvard Business School.
