Governor Umahi swears in four new commissioners — Few weeks before leaving office
Four new commissioners have been appointed into the state cabinet, by Ebonyi state Governor, David Umahi, few weeks to the governor’s exit from office after serving two terms.
The new commissioners sworn in at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Abakaliki, on Tuesday are: the former Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and Rural Development, Mr. Enekwachi Akpa.
Others are the former SSA to the Governor on Aviation and Technology, Mrs. Obianuju Aloh, former SSA to the Governor on Legal Matters, Mr. Emeka Nwode and a former SA to the Governor on Projects, Mr. Uchenna Nwankpuma.
During the swearing in, the state governor charged the new commissioners to use the little opportunity available to them to leave a legacy in their services to the state and humanity.
Also inaugurated by the governor was the Committee members for the May 29 handover.

FirstBank Sponsors Samuel Okwaraji U-16 Football Championship 2026
The tournament will engage secondary schools from all 36 states and the FCT, in a two-stage competition.
FirstBank, through its First@Sports initiative, is sponsoring the maiden edition of the Samuel Okwaraji Under 16 Football Championship.
The competition is a nationwide youth football tournament organised to honour the late Samuel Okwaraji, one of Nigeria’s most celebrated football legends renowned for his patriotism, discipline, and commitment to national service.
The tournament will engage secondary schools from all 36 states and the FCT, in a two-stage competition.
The first stage will feature zonal eliminations across the six geopolitical zones, followed by a national final in Abuja featuring the top 12 qualifying teams.
In a statement , the Managing Director/ CEO of FirstBank, Olusegun Alebiosu, said: “Football is the strongest unifier of Nigerians. It brings communities together, inspires discipline, and nurtures talents across the country.
FirstBank is making a deliberate incursion into grassroots football development with this sponsorship, creating an enabling environment for the next generation of Samuel Okwarajis to discover, refine, and maximise their potential, thereby shaping the future of Nigerian football.”
In his remarks, Senator Osita Izunaso, the Chairman of the Championship Organising Committee commended FirstBank for throwing its weight around the championship.

JUST IN: El-Rufai Leaves State High Court for Federal High Court in Kaduna
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has concluded proceedings at the State High Court in Kaduna and is now proceeding to the Federal High Court for the continuation of another suit.
El-Rufai, who was earlier present at the State High Court for the continuation of his trial, left the premises after the sitting ended.
He is expected to appear before the Federal High Court in Kaduna for further proceedings related to another case.
Security presence remained visible around both court premises as proceedings attracted attention from observers and supporters.
Details of the proceedings at the Federal High Court are expected to emerge as the matter continues.

El-Rufai Appear in State High Court, after Mother’s death, as Trial Continues
The former Kaduna State Governor, Nasiru El-Rufai, on Tuesday morning arrived at the Kaduna State High Court for the trial, and there after he is expected to proceed to the Federal High Courtfor continuation of his proceedings.
The former governor arrived at the Kaduna State High Court amid tight security presence, as legal teams from both sides prepare to continue hearing in the matter. El-Rufai is also scheduled to appear before the Federal High Court for continuation of related legal processes.
The case continues to attract significant public attention, with observers closely monitoring developments across both courts.
Details of the matters to be addressed in both courts have not been fully disclosed, but outcomes from the hearings are expected to influence the direction of the trial.
