WSL: Payne delighted with Player of the Month nomination

Everton midfielder, Toni Payne, is excited to be nominated for the English Women’s Super League, WSL, Player of the Month for February.
Payne is one of the five nominees for the award.
It’s the first time the Nigeria international has been nominated for the individual prize.
“It definitely feels good. You know, it’s my first time in the league and the WSL.
I definitely knew it was going to be a struggle in the beginning, but I think I’m finally catching my stride here,” the Nigeria international told the club’s official website.
The 27-year-old registered two assists in three league appearances for Everton in February.
Recall that Payne joined Everton on a free transfer last summer.

England defeats Spain to win Women’s Euro 2025 Cup

England defeated Spain 3-1 in a penalty shoot-out to win the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 after a dramatic 1-1 draw following extra time on Sunday in Basel.
The victory at St Jakob-Park marks back-to-back European titles for the Lionesses, who also avenged their 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup final defeat to the Spanish.
Although Spain dominated the possession and took the lead through Mariona Caldentey’s first-half header, yet England once again showed their trademark resilience.
Alessia Russo headed home the equaliser just before the hour mark, and after a tense extra time, the final was decided on penalties.
Spain faltered from the spot, missing three of their efforts, including a save from reigning Ballon d’Or winner Aitana Bonmati, while Kelly, coming off the bench, sealed the win with a composed finish.

Super Falcons parading Abuja today with WAFCON Cup visit to President Tinubu
The team is scheduled to arrive in Abuja on Monday around 12 pm, landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says that the Super Falcons squad will be hosted today by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
” We are making arrangements to have a trophy parade with the players and their coaches in an open-roof bus, plying through Airport Road, Berger Junction, Maitama, and Wuse Market areas en route to the Presidential Villa, allowing fans a rare chance to see the WAFCON trophy up close,“ said NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed.

This follows their dramatic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

WAFCON 2024: Nigeria’s Super Falcons defeats Morocco 3-2
The hosts came flying out of the blocks and scored twice. But the Falcons came out strongly in the second half and scored through Esther Okoronkwo’s penalty.

The Nigerian women’s national team, the Super Falcons, defeated Morocco on Saturday night to win the 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Falcons pulled off a remarkable 3-2 comeback win over host nation Morocco, completing what they dubbed #MissionX.
The West Africans had to fight back from two goals in the first half to win 3-2 in Rabat.
The hosts came flying out of the blocks and scored twice. But the Falcons came out strongly in the second half and scored through Esther Okoronkwo’s penalty.
Okoronkwo then turned provider for Folashade Ijamilusi who drew Nigeria level.
Jennifer Echegini then got on the end of a free-kick to score a late winner.
The victory means Nigeria have now won a record-extending 10 WAFCON titles.
