Just In: El-Rufai opens TikTok account for political commentaries

The former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has launched a TikTok account to share his views on Nigerian politics and his new party, the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
In an announcement video, El-Rufai invited users to engage with him through videos, comments and discussions on political affairs. This is my only and official TikTok page,” he stated.
“Please join me for videos, comments and conversations on Nigerian politics, as well as the activities of our new party, Social Democratic Party (SDP). Welcome on board.”
El-Rufai’s TikTok page gained significant traction within 24 hours. At the time of this report, he had amassed over 200,000 followers.
In his TikTok bio, the former governor describes himself as an “accidental public servant, certified ruffler of feathers and deliberate SDP member.”
El-Rufai’s move to TikTok follows his recent resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and subsequent switch to the SDP on Monday.
He criticised the ruling party, accusing it of abandoning its founding principles and prioritising personal financial gain over governance.
“The APC has abandoned the principles that led to its establishment.
It has abandoned the community. Everyone is doing their own thing. Everyone is looking for money. The government has become a business government,” he said.

Obidient Movement Urges Members To Register With NDC As O-K Exits ADC
Obi’s exit from the ADC and his subsequent registration with the NDC alongside former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, informed the movement’s decision to consolidate its activities on the platform of the NDC.
“We call on all members of the Obidient Movement to proceed with registration into the Nigeria Democratic Congress at their respective wards,” said its National Coordinator, Dr Yunusa Tanko.
In a statement on Monday Dr Tanko disclosed that movement a digital membership platform had been introduced to facilitate seamless registration for Nigerians both within and outside the country.
He encouraged members to register through the official portal, Nigeria Democratic Congress Registration Portal.
According to the statement, Obi’s exit from the ADC and his subsequent registration with the NDC alongside former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, informed the movement’s decision to consolidate its activities on the platform of the NDC.
The group said the transition was driven by the need for “a more stable, credible, and value-driven vehicle for national transformation.”

Buba Galadima: NDC has zoned presidential ticket to south
Galadima made the declaration yesterday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, “we have zoned the party’s presidential candidature to the south. No missing votes. We’ve zoned it to the south.”

Buba Galadima, a political associate of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, declared that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the south.
Galadima made the declaration yesterday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, “we have zoned the party’s presidential candidature to the south. No missing votes. We’ve zoned it to the south.”
On Sunday, Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) who is from south-east Nigeria, and Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano, formally joined the NDC.
Galadima said that NDC would submit its membership register to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on May 5 or 6.
“Once we do that, we are good to go,” he said.

ADC Not Shaken By Obi’s Exit
“Everybody has the right to choose the party they want. Everybody has the right to do what they feel is the best way to win.”
The youth wing of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said the party remains strong and optimistic about its chances in the 2027 elections despite recent political realignments involving key figures.
National Youth Leader of the party, Balarabe Rufai, gave the affirmation in response to the movement of Peter Obi from the party, asserting that it would not diminish the party’s growing momentum or derail its objective of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) .
Rufai, in a public statement said that the party was not shaken by the development, stressing that its focus remains on strengthening democratic values rather than individual political decisions.
