Imo Poll: LP’s Achonu Asks INEC To Cancel Polling Units Marred By Violence
The governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Imo State, Athan Achonu, has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel the votes in polling units marred by violence.
Achonu made the call on Saturday after casting his vote in Umunumo hamlet in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State
When asked if the electoral body should cancel votes in polling units marred by violence, the LP candidate said: “Of course where this thing is happening, they must cancel it.
“There is no other alternative than to cancel it so that every person will come there and watch it conducted.”
‘They Beat Our Agents’
Reacting to the conduct of the exercise, Achonu alleged that some thugs beat up some agents of his party.
Describing the situation as crazy, he said the violence is contrary to democratic norms.
“They beat up so many of our agents. We are sad, we are going to upload some of their pictures. This is crazy, this is what our democracy has come to.
“But we are resisting. Can’t you see the people here? They will not allow it. I hope it is the same thing going on everywhere so that we can have proper democracy and bring in good governance,” he stated.

Military Pensioners Protest Exclusion from Tinubu’s Salary Increments
The increment, which the retired military officers said it shouldn’t have left them out having served the country diligently for 35 years or more, cut across all the ranks in the military.
Military pensioners were on Wednesday prevented by soldiers from staging a protest at the ministry of defence building in Abuja over “non-implementation of consequential adjustments to their pensions.”
The retired military personnel had converged on an open field near the ministry, holding aloft banners with various inscriptions.
They were making their way to the ministry’s main gate when soldiers cordoned off the area.
President Bola Tinubu recently approved new salary scale for serving military officers with a view to bolstering their performance across all the theatres of operations in the country.
The increment, which the retired military officers said it shouldn’t have left them out having served the country diligently for 35 years or more, cut across all the ranks in the military.
A retired Master Warrant Officer, who didn’t want his name in print, told our correspondent that the Minister was supposed to have met them in order to sort out the issue but the people around him prevented him from doing so.
“Gen. Christopher Musa is a kind man. He is always willing to see to the welfare of both the serving and retired personnel but those around him don’t want him to succeed,” he said.
