Former Nigerian International Football Player, Daniel Amokachi Appointed Team Nigeria Ambassador
Former Nigerian International Football Player, Daniel Amokachi has been appointed as the Ambassador of Team Nigeria due to his outstanding football career.
Today, Amokachi is lending his fame and expertise to a cause that is close to his heart, known as the Homeless World Cup.
The Former Nigerian International and Atlanta 96 Olympic Gold winner has been announced as “TEAM NIGERIA” Ambassador by Team Director Mr Yomi Kuku in Abuja, Nigeria.
During the signing ceremony, Dan Amokachi said, “I am excited to be an AMBASSADOR of Nigeria’s Homeless World Cup Team to bring awareness to the tournament. Football is a powerful tool that can be used to bring people together and promote social inclusion. I believe that events like the Homeless World Cup are essential as they provide a platform for homeless and vulnerable people to showcase their football talents, get recognized and significantly empower them. I am committed to giving my best to TEAM NIGERIA to the Homeless World Cup by championing its values across Nigeria on and off the pitch.
The former Club Brugge, Everton and Besiktas star player used the occasion to announce the immediate deployment of his personal pet project; Daniel Amokachi Foundation as a partner of the Homeless World Cup country representative; Search and Groom Youth for Development Centre.
Team Nigeria Director, Mr Yomi Kuku expressed excitement about the value and the opportunity to work with Daniel Amokachi. He said, “We are delighted to have Daniel Amokachi on board. His fame and experience in football will be invaluable in raising awareness for the tournament and the cause we stand for. “We believe that football can transform lives, and we are committed to making a difference in the lives of the homeless and vulnerable communities and individuals through this project across Nigeria.”
The Homeless World Cup is an annual street soccer event that brings together homeless people from across the world to participate in a football tournament that seeks to promote social inclusion and empowerment, the 2023 edition of the Homeless World Cup is slated to be held in Sacramento, California in July with 70 countries in attendance.
The Ambassador role for Daniel Amokachi is a testament to his passion for football and his desire to positively impact the lives of people. It is a reminder that football is more than just a game; it is an avenue for social change.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred national honours on members of Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their historic triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Championship.
D’Tigress defeated Senegal in a thrilling final to clinch the 2025 title, extending their dominance in African women’s basketball and reinforcing Nigeria’s status as a basketball powerhouse on the continent.
In addition to the prestigious honours, President Tinubu announced a cash reward of $100,000 for each player on the championship-winning team. Members of the technical crew will also receive $50,000 each in recognition of their role in the team’s success.
The announcement was made on Monday as the President hosted the team at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, celebrating their outstanding performance that secured Nigeria’s fourth consecutive Afrobasket title.
President Tinubu praised the team’s resilience, discipline, and representation of Nigeria on the continental stage, describing them as role models for the nation’s youth and a symbol of national pride.

Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, on Saturday, shared her journey from humble beginnings to continental success in a testimony at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries’ Prayer City, Ogun State.
Ajibade, who led Nigeria to its 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco, attended the August edition of the church’s monthly ‘Power Must Change Hands’ programme.
The Punch reports that the Atletico Madrid forward told the congregation that she once hawked olive oil, kunu, and zobo drinks within the church premises before rising to fame as a professional footballer.
She said in part, “Whenever things are tough at my club or with the national team, I pray,
“I do my part through hard work but never forget to seek God’s help.”She added,
“I was once one of those young girls out there hawking olive oil, kunu, and zobo drinks in most of the deliverance programmes, but today, I give glory to God.”

Tinubu appreciates Super Falcons with $100,000 cash award, 3-bedroom apartments including OON honours
Members of the team’s technical crew also received $50,000 each as part of the presidential recognition.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on all 24 players of Nigeria’s victorious WAFCON team, along with a cash reward of $100,000 each and a three-bedroom apartment for each player.
Members of the team’s technical crew also received $50,000 each as part of the presidential recognition.
The announcement was made during a special reception held in honour of the team at the State House on Monday.
Led by team captain Rasheedat Ajibade and head coach Justin Madugu, the champions arrived at the Presidential Villa at 4:35 p.m. to a rousing welcome from President Tinubu and other dignitaries
