The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has frozen an Osun State Government account domiciled with First Bank, ten days to August 15 governorship election.

The account, reportedly used for the payment of workers’ salaries, was placed on “Post No Debit” status by the anti-graft agency.

The development came hours after Governor Ademola Adeleke alleged that the EFCC was planning to freeze the state’s accounts and those of top government officials.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the governor described the reported move as an attempt to cripple government activities.

Governor Adeleke maintained that there was no legal basis for freezing the accounts of the state government, arguing that the EFCC lacked the statutory powers to take such action.

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has claimed that he would be difficult to defeat in a free and fair election if he ever decided to seek political office in Nigeria.

The singer, however, stressed that he has no intention of venturing into politics, citing what he described as a lack of transparency in the country’s electoral process.

Davido spoke during a recent livestream with content creator Carter Efe.

He said that he would rather continue pursuing his music career than contest for public office under the current electoral system.

He added that he would only consider politics if Nigeria’s elections become more transparent and credible.

….Their academic credentials and personal details were made public for scrutiny ahead of 2027 Presidential Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday released the personal details, academic credentials and supporting documents submitted by candidates for the January 16, 2027 presidential election.

The move, in line with INEC’s Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election and the Electoral Act, opens the statutory window for public scrutiny of the candidates’ qualifications. The EC9 forms and accompanying documents of the presidential aspirants are now available for inspection.

So far, the personal particulars of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Gregory Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and other contenders — along with those of their running mates — have been published in INEC offices nationwide.

The documents contain each candidate’s personal particulars, educational qualifications, occupation, work history, sworn declarations and supporting certificates submitted during the nomination process.

The publication marks the start of the period in which members of the public may inspect the documents and challenge any information they believe to be false in court.

Section 33 of the Electoral Act provides that any person who has reasonable grounds to believe that information contained in a candidate’s affidavit or other documents submitted to INEC is false may institute legal action against such a candidate.
