APC disqualies Ben Murray-Bruce, 46 others from senatorial race

The All Progressives Congress’ Screening Committees has disqualified Ben Murray-Bruce, a former senator who represented Bayelsa East, along with 46 from participation in its Senate primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The list was made public on Monday in a press statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
According to the statement, “The screening exercise was conducted by the Party’s Screening Committees in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.”
The APC did not provide reasons for the disqualification of the affected aspirants.
Rivers West senatorial district had the highest number of disqualified aspirants, with four names listed: Oyukaye Flag Amachree, Tamunobaabo Wemike Danagogo, Jack-Rich Tein, and Banigo Ipalibo.
Zamfara State also recorded a high number, with seven aspirants across its Central, North, and West districts failing to secure clearance.
The APC did not provide reasons for the disqualification of the affected aspirants.

Desmond Elliot cries out, ‘My security taken away, what have I done?’

Desmond Elliot, the lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency at the Lagos State House of Assembly, has raised concerns over his safety.
Elliot, who spoke in a video posted on his X handle disclosed that his security personnel had allegedly been withdrawn without explanation.
“My security personnel were taken away from me yesterday for reasons best known to them. Now I am left alone to myself. What have I done?” he queried.
He alleged that some APC members were threatened with exclusion from empowerment opportunities if they failed to support a preferred aspirant.
He warned against attempts to instigate violence during the primaries, alleging that there were plans to cause unrest in the area.
“They want to bring people from outside and from within to cause mayhem and to cause trouble. Please allow for a free, fair election on the 20th of May, 2026,” he said.
Elliot called on party leaders to look into the allegations and urged his supporters not to be intimidated ahead of the exercise.
“To all you lovers of Desmond Olusola Elliott, who believe in accessibility and fair play, do not be intimidated. Come out on that day because there will be maximum security guaranteed from the party,” he said.

APC Postpones House of Representatives Primary to Saturday
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed its House of Representatives primary election for the 2027 General Elections to Saturday, May 16, 2026.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, the party said the adjustment affects only the House of Representatives primary, while the dates for other primaries remain unchanged.
According to the new timetable released by the APC:
- House of Representatives Primary: Saturday, 16th May, 2026
- Senate Primary: Monday, 18th May, 2026
- State House of Assembly Primary: Wednesday, 20th May, 2026
- Governorship Primary: Thursday, 21st May, 2026
- Presidential Primary: Saturday, 23rd May, 2026
The party assured stakeholders that the shift was necessary and that all other arrangements for the primaries would proceed as planned.
