Movement for Credible Elections fault Senate’s rejection of electronic transmission of results
According to the group, the transmission process is a minimum safeguard against result tampering, ballot rewriting, and post-election fraud, warning that any legislature that blocks it is openly defending a system that thrives on electoral corruption, stolen mandates and manufactured elections.
The Movement for Credible Elections (MCE) has condemned in very strong terms the decision of the Senate to remove and refuse the mandatory electronic transmission of election results as proposed by the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026.
Leaders of the Steering Council of the newly launched MCE include: Dr Usman Bugaje, Prof Pat Utomi, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, Barr Femi Falana, SAN, Amb Nkoyo Toyo, Hajia (Dr) Bilikisu Magoro, Comrade Ene Obi, Comrade Salisu Mohammed, Comrade Bala Zakka, among others.
In a statement signed on Saturday in Abuja by MCE Media Coordinator, Comrade James Ezema, the group described the action of the Senate as not lawmaking, but a deliberate democratic sabotage against the aspiration of the people of the country as Mandatory electronic transmission of results is not controversial.
The body has called on the Senate to immediately reinstate and pass the mandatory electronic transmission of results in the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026, as well as publicly account for those members who opposed this clause, so they do not use the cover of the Senate or House of Representatives to avoid public scrutiny and explanation of their positions to Nigerians.
According to MCE, Nigerians must ensure that they are made to account for the use of legislative powers as a system they have benefited from in the last twenty six years since Nigeria became a democratic state.

Tragedy has struck the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kogi State following the sudden death of the party chairman in Ijumu Local Government Area, Oyewole Mayowa Solomon.
Solomon reportedly slumped and died on Friday while attending a peace and reconciliation meeting at the Iyara Town Hall, the headquarters of Ijumu Local Government Area.
The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear. Sources at the meeting said proceedings were ongoing when the party chairman suddenly collapsed, throwing political leaders and delegates into panic and confusion.
He was immediately given first aid and rushed to a medical facility in neighbouring Kabba, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Solomon’s sudden death has sent shockwaves through the political landscape of Kogi West, coming at a time when the APC is intensifying efforts to reconcile members and strengthen party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The APC state executive and local authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.

The Presidency on released a list of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, with President Bola Tinubu as Chairman While vice President Kashim Shettima and the Party Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda will serve as chairman and vice chairman, respectively..
The list was released in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy).
The former Zamfara State governor Senator Abdulaziz Yari will serve as the director-general of the campaign. Governor Hope Uzodimma will serve as secretary of the campaign council. APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru and Hadiza Bala-Usman will serve as deputy and assistant secretaries.
Onanuga said that the chairman of the campaign Council, President Tinubu, will work with a body of advisers comprising Chief Bisi Akande, Chief Segun Osoba, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and Senator Florence Ita Giwa.
The Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker Tajudeen Abass, and Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State have been assigned as deputy director-generals for the campaign in the south and the north.
