10th NASS: Former Plateau state Deputy Speaker, Yusuf Gagdi Declares Speakership Bid
The Former Deputy Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Yusuf Gagdi has declared his intention to run for the Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives.
Gagdi declared his intention at the unveiling of his manifesto and a compendium of his achievements in the 9th National Assembly in Abuja, promising to lead a transparent House of Representatives.
His declaration comes ahead of the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly in June.
Some elected federal lawmakers, alongside friends and relatives of the Gagdi, who represents Panskhin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency of Plateau State, were at the occasion to support his ambition.
The second-term federal lawmaker said to achieve his ambition, he is courting elected lawmakers from other parts of the country as well as other political parties.
He believed he has what it takes to lead the 10th House of Representatives and pleaded with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the President-elect, Bola Tinubu to allow the lawmakers to determine their leaders.
The 42-year-old was elected into the Plateau State House of Assembly in 2015, where served as the Deputy Speaker, and in 2019 he won the election to the House of Representatives.
In the 9th National Assembly, he sponsored six private member bills, which were signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Peter Obi dispels arrest rumours, says he’s in Onitsha

Peter Obi has dispelled the rumour of his arrest, saying he is currently at his Onitsha residence in Anambra State.
This followed the death threat allegation and counter allegation between him and Felix Morka, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement posted via his official Twitter handle on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Obi called on his supporter to ignore the rumour of his alleged arrest, saying the claim is entirely false. The recurring fake News on me.
I have been made aware of a circulating fake News about my alleged arrest.
Let me state unequivocally that these claims are entirely false. I am currently at my home in Onitsha. Anambra State. Such fake News on my person has become a pastime for some people,” he tweeted.
The former Governor of Anambra State recalled that similar rumour was amplified in 2024, when he was said to have arrested by officials of the DSS.
He said, “Recall last year September, when I was in Rwanda, similar lies had gone out that DSS invaded my house; now, while I was in my home in Onitsha, Anambra State, they said I was arrested in Abuja.
The motive of these peddlers cannot be positive but let us not allow baseless rumors to distract us from the critical challenges we face as a nation.”

Mahama is President Again in Ghana

John Dramani Mahama was sworn-in today as Ghana’s new President, alongside his vice President, Professor Jane Nanaa Opoku-Agyemang, the first woman to become vice president in Ghana.
Mahama took the oat of office and allegiance administered by Chief Justice Araba Torkornoo, at the Black Star Square in Accra, Ghana.
Mahama was declared the winner of the 2024 presidential election on December 8th after he defeated his main opponent, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.
Mahama, who had previously served the country as the 12th President between 2011 and 2017, found his way back to power through re-election.
Mahama’s inauguration ceremony, graced by the President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu who doubles as the ECOWAS Chairman, also had in attendance other African leaders, including business leaders, foreign envoys.
