NEC Demands Withdrawal of Tax Reform Bills at NASS

The National Executive Council (NEC) on Thursday recommended the withdrawal of the four tax reform bills sent to the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu.
The NEC presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima, decided at its meeting held at the Presidential Villa.
Membership of the NEC includes the governors of Nigeria’s 36 states. Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, who was one of the attendees who briefed journalists, said the NEC called for the withdrawal so that “we can have wider consultations and also build consensus around these reforms…”
President Tinubu sent the four bills to the National Assembly as part of efforts to overhaul Nigeria’s tax system.
The bills seek to, among others, create a central revenue service that will collect all government revenues including those currently being collected by agencies like the customs and the ports authority.
The bills also seek to allocate more VAT revenues to states but would allow states where the VATs are generated to get the lion’s share. It is that latter position that northern leaders believe would not favour states in the region.

Herbert Wigwe: Pilot Error Results in Crash
In its final report released on Wednesday, the NTSB said the accident occurred after the pilot continued flying under visual flight rules (VFR) into weather conditions that required instrument flight protocols.

The United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has concluded that the helicopter crash which claimed the lives of former Access Holdings CEO, Herbert Wigwe, his wife, son, and three others in February 2024 was caused by pilot error stemming from spatial disorientation.
In its final report released on Wednesday, the NTSB said the accident occurred after the pilot continued flying under visual flight rules (VFR) into weather conditions that required instrument flight protocols.
“The pilot’s decision to continue the visual flight rules flight into instrument meteorological conditions, which resulted in the pilot’s spatial disorientation and loss of control,” was cited as the probable cause of the crash.
