BREAKING: IMO: S’Court Declines To Sack Uzodinma
The Supreme Court has declined an application filed by Emeka Ihedioha of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) seeking to sack Imo State governor Hope Uzodinma on grounds that he wasn’t validly nominated to run in 2019.
A five-man panel of the court, led by Justice John Okoro, dismissed the application for being unnecessary, vexatious, irritating and for lacking in merit, stating that the apex court lacks jurisdiction to attend to the matter with the 60-day period for doing so having elapsed.
Though the main appeal was brought before the apex court by Uche Nwosu, the governorship candidate of the Action Alliance, AA, in the 2019 election, however, the PDP, and Ihedioha, who won the said contest, applied to be joined as interested parties in the matter.
The PDP and Uzodinma prayed the Apex Court to give effect to its 2019 decision that disqualified Nwosu on the ground that he was nominated by both the AA and the All Progressives Congress, APC, to contest the election.
The Appellants argued that if the apex court recognised Nwosu as candidate of the APC, there was no legal basis for its subsequent judgment that sacked Ihedioha and declared Uzodinma who was also sponsored by the same APC, as the valid winner of the governorship poll.
In dismissing the application of the PDP, the Court awarded a fine of N40million against Mike Ozekhome, counsel to Ihedioha’s.
The High Court Judge abducted in Kebbi State one week ago, Hon. Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, has regained his freedom.
A family member confirmed the release to our correspondent on Monday, saying the judge arrived home a few hours ago.
According to the family member, relatives are jubilant and full of gratitude to God for the safe return of the abducted judge. He said the family expressed appreciation to all those who stood by them during the ordeal.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kebbi State Judiciary and security agencies had not released an official statement.
Justice Bunza’s abduction last week drew widespread concern across the state, with calls for his immediate and safe release.
……says Smoke Caused by Fire Suppression System
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has clarified that there was no fire at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos following an incident that prompted an earlier advisory.
Preliminary findings show that the smoke observed in the affected area resulted from the discharge of the terminal’s FM-200 fire suppression system. The cause of the system’s activation is still under investigation.
Normal operations have since resumed at the terminal. Detailed investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the incident.
FAAN thanked passengers, airlines, airport users and other stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation, and reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and security of all airport operations.
A fire has broken out at a terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, according to reports.
The incident is expected to cause flight delays, with passengers reportedly stranded outside the affected terminal as emergency responders work to contain the blaze and restore normal operations.
Further details on the cause, extent of the damage, and impact on flight schedules are still emerging. Airport authorities and emergency services are on site.
