Sack of Kano Emirs: Yusuf’s action capable of causing generational conflict – APC group
A youth group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), known as the APC Youth Crusaders For Peace and Development, has voiced significant concerns about potential repercussions following Governor Abba Yusuf’s decision to dismiss five Emirs in Kano State. The governor issued a directive on Thursday for Emirs Aminu Ado Bayero, Nasiru Ado Bayero, and three other first-class monarchs to vacate their palaces within 48 hours. This move coincided with the signing of the new Kano Emirate Bill (2024) into law, which also saw the reinstatement of former Central Bank Governor Muhammad Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano.
The group, led by National Coordinator Hon. Cyril Adamu, warned that the dethronement of the Emirs could destabilize the state and potentially trigger generational conflict. They expressed concern that this action might stoke unrest and was possibly intended to destabilize President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The group emphasized the deep value placed on the emirates by their subjects, suggesting that the governor’s actions could provoke significant unrest. They also highlighted the speed with which the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024 was passed and signed into law, raising suspicions of a deliberate effort to undermine the traditional institutions and peace in Kano and across Nigeria.
“The manner in which the controversial Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024 was signed into law by the governor the same day it was passed by the state house of assembly, raised suspicions that it is a calculated move to destroy the traditional institutions in the state, and by extension, the peace and stability of the state and the country at large,” the statement read.
However, a Federal High Court in Kano issued an ex-parte order on Friday morning, halting the governor’s actions and preventing the reinstatement of Sanusi as Emir of Kano until a substantive suit against the reinstatement is determined. The court’s decision adds a legal dimension to the unfolding political and social tension in Kano.

Ayo Fayose Gets Presidential Portfolio As REA Board Chairman

President Bola Tinubu has appointed the former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, as chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) Board.
The President also appointed Major General Junaid Bindawa as chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.
24 others were also appointed to 10 federal government agencies and commissions.
The appointments were contained in a statement issued by the presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, in Abuja.
According to the statement, “All the appointments take immediate effect.”

NBC Begins Training of Free -To- Air TV Installers

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has commenced nationwide capacity-building exercise to prepare installers for the rollout of the country’s renewed Digital Switchover (DSO) programme.
The Head of the DSO Unit and Deputy Director of Public Affairs at the Commission, Mrs. Clementine Usman-Wamba, announced the development during training of more than 50 set-top box installers and technicians in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
According to her, broadcasters would be shut out of analogue broadcasting transmission by 2028, hence the need for the training of installers that are professionals to assist in the process.
She said, “We are actually here in Ibadan to train installers specifically to be part of the Digital Switch Over process.We are doing it in conjunction with Nigeria Communication Satellite Limited, (NigComSat). It is a joint outreach that we are doing here today.”
