Police Prevents Tax Reform Bill’s Meeting in Sanusi’s Palace
Heavily armed policemen on Friday reportedly sealed off the palace of the 16th Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido, restricting his free movement outside the palace.
It was gathered that the security personnel took over the palace as early as 6am and manned strategic positions around the complex.
Sanusi who was scheduled to depart for Bichi to perform a function there was unable to do so due to the heavy security presence at the palace.
It was also gathered that the Emir had planned to host a meeting with clerics and economists to discuss the contentious Tax Reforms Bill.
However, the deployment of security personnel prevented the meeting from taking place.

Tremor Rocks Abuja, no casualties
It classified the incident as “a light event of I to II magnitude on the Mercalli scale”, noting that it was too weak to cause structural damage.
An earth tremor shook parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), according to the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA).
The NGSA’s seismic monitoring station in Utako detected the tremor at exactly 11:23:27am on Tuesday.
The agency said that the earth movement originated from a depth of one kilometre and travelled four kilometres within five seconds.
NGSA classified the incident as “a light event of I to II magnitude on the Mercalli scale”, noting that it was too weak to cause structural damage.
“This is a characteristic feature of a surface earth tremor that poses no threat to lives and properties except for the discomfort of the shake and fear of possible destruction,” the agency said.

Ex-finance minister Kemi Adeosun loses husband
The family said the Christian burial arrangements for Niyi will be announced in due course.
Anthony Adeniyi Adeosun, husband of Kemi Adeosun, a former minister of finance, has passed on.
Adeniyi, fondly called Niyi, died on August 5 aged 62, in Lagos, according to a statement signed by C. A. Adeosun, for and on behalf of the family.
The family said Niyi is survived by his wife; children; and siblings, including Adewale Adeosun, founder of Kuramo Capital.
The family said the Christian burial arrangements for Niyi will be announced in due course.
