NTTF U-12 National Hopes Week kicks off today in Lagos
Scheduled to run from April 2 to April 8, the event aims to discover and nurture young table tennis talents from across Nigeria.

Under the guidance of ITTF – certified coaches, the young athletes will be introduced to advanced techniques and strategies to refine their skills.
The training hall of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, will come alive today as the 2025 U-12 National Hopes Week, organized by the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF), begins.
Scheduled to run from April 2 to April 8, the event aims to discover and nurture young table tennis talents from across Nigeria.
This year’s edition promises to be an exciting showcase, with the most promising U-12 players from various states and regions gathering in Lagos for an intensive training camp..
Under the guidance of ITTF-certified coaches, the young athletes will be introduced to advanced techniques and strategies to refine their skills.
The NTTF said that the program is designed to provide a platform for these budding talents to display their abilities, gain valuable experience, and prepare for continental and World Hopes Week competitions.
The federation remains committed to developing the next generation of table tennis stars and fostering grassroots participation in the sport, with support from both the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and ITTF-Africa.
Throughout the week, participants will engage in a series of matches and training sessions aimed at enhancing their technical and tactical knowledge.
In addition, the event will facilitate networking opportunities for players, coaches, and officials, allowing them to exchange ideas and best practices.

The semi-final pairings for the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations have been confirmed, following the conclusion of the quarter-final clashes on Monday.

The match ended goalless after 120 minutes of action, with the Flying Eagles eventually triumphing 5-4 in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.
Their next hurdle will be South Africa, who edged past DR Congo with a 1-0 win in extra time.
Both teams will face off on May 15, with kick-off scheduled for 4pm local time.
In the other semi-final fixture, tournament hosts Egypt will lock horns with Morocco.
Egypt narrowly defeated Ghana 1-0 despite a late scare, while Morocco needed extra time to overcome a resilient Sierra Leone side with a solitary goal.
That match will take place later the same day at 9pm local time.

Christian Chukwu for burial August 22
In addition to the ceremony in Enugu, there will be a special event in Lagos, where Chukwu spent much of his career with the national football team.

The burial of Nigeria’s football legend Christian Chukwu has been scheduled for Friday, August 22, 2025, as announced by his family on Monday in Enugu.
Plans are already underway for a befitting national burial to honor the deceased football icon.
In addition to the ceremony in Enugu, there will be a special event in Lagos, where Chukwu spent much of his career with the national football team.
This event will provide an opportunity for his fans and friends who are unable to travel to Enugu to celebrate the football hero’s life and legacy.
Chukwu passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the age of 74.

Remo Stars win Nigerian champions for the first time
The club will now represent Nigeria in next year’s CAF Champions League along with this season’s eventual runners-up, while the third-placed team will feature in the CAF Confederation Cup

Remo Stars made history on Sunday having won the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title for the first time in their history.
The Sky Blue Stars defeated Niger Tornadoes courtesy of a late goal by Adebayo Olamilekan, becoming the first privately-owned club since Udoji United in 1996 to be crowned champions.
They achieved the feat on the 59th birthday of their owner, Kunle Soname, a businessman with interests ranging from aviation to the gaming industry.
They have now amassed an unassailable 68 points from 35 matches, 10 points clear of their closest rivals Rivers United, with three rounds of matches remaining this season.
They had finished as runners-up in the league in the past two seasons.Founded 15 years ago as FC Dender in Nigeria’s commercial hub of Lagos, the club moved to neighbouring Ogun State and rebranded as Remo Stars in 2011.
The club will now represent Nigeria in next year’s CAF Champions League along with this season’s eventual runners-up, while the third-placed team will feature in the CAF Confederation Cup.
