New jihadist group ‘Lakurawa’ Spread Tentacles in Sokoto
A new jihadist group known as the “Lakurawas” have taken over some communities in five local government areas in Sokoto State where they have imposed Islamic laws, taxes and levies.
The state’s Deputy Governor, Idris Gobir, made this disclosure when he received the participants of Course 33 of the National Defence College, Abuja, who were on a study tour in the state. Gobir said that the group describes itself as a faith-based idealist sect, but possesses sophisticated weapons and carrying out criminal activities in the affected local government areas of the state -Tangaza, Gudu, Ilela, Silame and Binji local councils of the state where they have imposed their own rules.
Some residents of the affected communities who spoke with journalists on Wednesday, expressed deep concerns over the presence of the heavily armed Islamic preachers, many of whom are believed to be foreigners.
The Lakurawas have set up bases in the affected local government areas, moving from community to community and preaching against western civilization and democratic system of government, similar to the ideology of Boko Haram terrorists,” one resident said.
“We have noticed that the majority of the members of the new Islamic sect are from the Sahel countries of Mali and Niger Republic.
They imposed strict Islamic laws, luring young people into the fold with business capital. They also collect taxes and levies.

Anambra: Many feared trapped in Oko students hostel collapse
“We heard a loud bang, and within seconds people were screaming for help. Everyone rushed out to see what had happened,” an eyewitness said.
Panic gripped the Oko community in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State late Sunday after a student hostel reportedly collapsed, leaving several occupants feared trapped beneath the rubble.
Eyewitnesses said a loud bang was heard moments before the multi-storey building gave way, sending students and residents rushing to the scene in confusion and fear.
“We heard a loud bang, and within seconds people were screaming for help. Everyone rushed out to see what had happened,” an eyewitness said.
The Sun reported that videos and photos circulating on social media showed a large crowd gathered around the collapsed structure as residents, students and emergency responders launched frantic rescue efforts to locate survivors.

Security Forces Rescue 9, Neutralise Terrorist in Kwara
A joint security operation against terrorists has led to the rescue of nine persons in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.
According to inside sources, Forest Guards, under the supervision of the Directorate of Security Services and working with members of the local hunters and vigilante group, embarked on bush-combing operations. They discovered a hideout of the kidnappers and engaged them.
Nine persons were rescued in two separate operations in the forest of Obbo Aiyegunle. One of the kidnappers was neutralised while others fled with gunshot injuries.
One of the rescued persons is said to be receiving medical care at an undisclosed medical facility in the local government.
