JUST IN: CAN Speaks on fatal accident involving Salvation Army and RCCG members along Benin-Ore Road

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has said it received with shock the news of the tragic incidents that recently affected the Salvation Army and the Redeemed Christian Church of God RCCG, with great shock.

The fatal incident led to the loss of twelve pastors (Officers), a baby, and a driver in an accident near Benin City, Edo State.

CAN described the incident as a devastating blow to the congregation, the body of Christ in Nigeria and the nation at large.

“We stand with the Salvation Army during this very difficult time in prayer, asking that God comforts them and eases their pain. We also urge the government authorities to thoroughly investigate the accident to prevent a repeat of the episode,” a statement signed by Archbishop Daniel Okoh, its President, said.

CAN described the attack on worshippers at the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Abule-Ori, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, as an assault on religious freedom in Nigeria.

“We mourn the loss of the Pastor and condemn the kidnapping of worshippers who were simply exercising their religious freedom to worship,” the Christian body said.

“We commend security agencies for their swift response to the incident and call for intensified efforts to apprehend all the perpetrators.

“We urge the various security agencies to increase vigilance on places of worship during religious gatherings and provide adequate security measures for worshippers. CAN urges citizens not to be discouraged by recent losses but to continue to look up to God for help. Our thoughts and prayers are with the affected families and churches.

“May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace.”

The burial was held within the premises of his family compound.

A solemn military reception was also held at the graveside.

Before the late Buhari’s internment, his casket was draped in Nigeria’s green and white colours.

TikTok removes 3.6m Nigerian videos for contents violation

Short video platform, TikTok has clampdown on perceived offensive videos globally, including Nigeria.

Owned by Bytedance, TikTok removed over 3.6 million videos posted by Nigerian users in the first quarter of 2025 for violating its content policy.

Globally, it removed 211 million videos.

In the Q1 2025 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, TikTok restated the importance of a safe, respectful, and trustworthy digital environment.

Analysis of the report showed that the 3.6 million removed Nigerian videos, showed a 50 percent increase in removals over the previous quarter, where 2.4 million videos from the country were removed for the same violation.

The company said it recorded a proactive detection rate of 98.4 percent, which is content removed before it was reported to TikTok, and 92.1 percent of videos were removed within 24 hours.

Earlier in March 2025, TikTok also removed 129 accounts in West Africa tied to covert operations.

Further analysis showed that in the Q1, 2025, the 211 million videos removed rose from the 153 million videos removed in the previous quarter, where some 184 million were yanked off the platform.

The platform’s global proactive detection rate reached 99 per cent, demonstrating continued improvements in identifying and removing harmful content quickly and effectively.

TikTok explained that on spam and fake engagements, it removed a total of 44.7 million comments from fake accounts between January and March this year.In addition, it also removed 4.3 billion fake likes in the period under review.

JUST IN: Tinubu receives Buhari’s remains in Katsina (Photos)

President Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday, received the remains of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Airport in Katsina.

His coffin covered with Nigerian flag, was flown into the state amid tight security.

Buhari’s body brought out of aircraft in Katsina.

Tinubu, accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima; First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; and other top government officials, stood solemnly as the coffin was brought down from the aircraft.
