FIFA President Condemns Racial Abuse During German Cup Matches

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has strongly condemned the alleged racial abuse that took place during two German Cup fixtures over the weekend, describing the incidents as “unacceptable” in a statement released Monday.
“There is no place for racism in football,” Infantino said, emphasizing his continued commitment to fighting racism in the sport.
The controversy erupted on Sunday during the match between Lokomotive Leipzig and Schalke, which was temporarily halted after Schalke winger Christopher Antwi-Adjei reported being racially abused by home fans.
In response, an announcement condemning racist behavior was made over the stadium’s public address system. However, after play resumed, Antwi-Adjei was met with repeated boos from the home supporters.
Later that day, Lokomotive Leipzig issued a formal apology for the behavior of their fans.
