Elumelu unveils Ucee MFB

The Chairman of the United Bank for Africa (UBA), Tony Elumelu, has launched Ucee Microfinance Bank (MFB), a subsidiary of United Capital Plc.

Mr Elumelu, flanked by the Chairman of Ucee MFB, Stephen Nwadiuko; Group CEO of United Capital Plc, Peter Ashade; and Managing Director/CEO of Ucee MFB, Esther Adeola-Balogun; performed the official tape cutting on Monday in Lagos.

Elumelu said that the MFB was birthed in fulfilment of the group’s long-time dream.

Elumelu said, “What we have done is just one per cent of making sure that we help to improve lives, create prosperity and help the society in living a more comfortable life.”

He expressed optimism that MFB would surpass the collective expectations of the group, customers and the Nigerian public.

The top investment banker also expressed confidence in the ability of the MD/CEO to take Ucee MFB “beyond the shores of Nigeria.”

On his part, Mr Ashade said the Ucee MFB aimed to drive financial inclusion and increase access to capital financial services in line with the objectives of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

He said, “Our mission is simple, helping our esteemed clients to reach their financial goals and democratising access to financial services and infrastructure.”

Brent crude climbed above $106 per barrel on Monday, recovering losses from the previous session after President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s latest proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns that the restoration of oil flows through the critical waterway could face further delays.

Trump also said Tehran had overplayed its hand and expects negotiations to resume this week.

Meanwhile, Iran said it is waiting for a definitive US response to its seven-day proposal to reopen the strait and other demands, adding that it will not ease its conditions after Trump rejected Tehran’s latest plan.

Elsewhere in the Middle East, tensions remain high as Saudi Arabia intercepted Houthi drones heading toward Riyadh, along with a missile targeting Khamis Mushait in the south.

Alerts were also issued in Abha and Jazan, where Aramco operates energy facilities.

In the US, Trump is considering a ban on diesel exports as part of efforts to address elevated fuel prices.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) says that its forthcoming National Capital Market Conference 2026 will be used to officially launch the Nigerian Capital Market Master Plan 2.0 (NCMMP), and the National Savings Scheme, among other activities.

The conference will be declared open by the Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, and hosted by the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Professor Taiwo Oyedele.

In a statement , SEC Director -General, Dr. Emomotimi Agama, disclosed that the conference scheduled for 19 October, in Abuja, will bring together key stakeholders from the public and private sectors to discuss strategic initiatives aimed at further deepening the Nigerian capital market, enhancing domestic resource mobilization, strengthening investor participation, and supporting sustainable economic growth and national development.
