BREAKING: Former Minister, Onu, Is Dead
A former Minister of Science and Technology under the administration of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Ogbonnaya Onu, has reportedly died.
Recall that Onu, who was the first civilian Governor of Abia State, passed on this morning in an Abuja hospital.
According to a source close to the deceased who spoke to The Sun on Thursday, said the former governor died after a brief illness in an undisclosed hospital in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State is in shock to hear about the death of the former Governor of old Abia State and one time Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu after he was confirmed dead at an undisclosed hospital at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Thursday, a development Governor Uzodimma described as devastating and unexpected.
A statement by Oguwike Nwachuku, Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the Imo State Governor, said his principal received with shock the sad, devastating and unexpected news of the passing of Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, a man he loves to describe as one of Nigeria’s intellectual and political giants with extraordinary gentility.
The statement said that with Dr. Onu’s death, the South East, Nigeria and the global community have lost a statesman who believed so much in the unity, peace, progress and development of Nigeria.
The statement further said that Dr. Onu, 72, remained a leading light in the All Progressives Congress (APC) family having, for many years, imbibed the tenets of progressive democracy as the easiest route to serve the people.
The statement said that Governor Uzodimma therefore consoles the APC family, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the government of Nigeria, the South East geopolitical zone, the government and people of Ebonyi State and all political associates of the deceased over the huge.
Nwachuku also said that his principal spared a thought for Dr. Onu’s family and prayed God to give them the grace to bear the burden of the unexpected loss even as he prayed for the repose of the soul of the one time presidential aspirant of the APC and presidential candidate of the defunct All Peoples Party (APP).

Fayose will head the board of REA, with Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta appointed as members and non-executive directors,” said Onanuga.
President Bola Tinubu has appointed the former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, as chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) Board.
The President also appointed Major General Junaid Bindawa as chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.
24 others were also appointed to 10 federal government agencies and commissions.
The appointments were contained in a statement issued by the presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, in Abuja.
According to the statement, “All the appointments take immediate effect.”
“Fayose will head the board of REA, with Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta appointed as members and non-executive directors,” said Onanuga.

BREAKING: ICPC grills Gbajabiamila over PFIPC scandal

NBC Begins Training of Free -To- Air TV Installers

•50 set-top box installers and technicians in Ibadan
The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has commenced nationwide capacity-building exercise to prepare installers for the rollout of the country’s renewed Digital Switchover (DSO) programme.
The Head of the DSO Unit and Deputy Director of Public Affairs at the Commission, Mrs. Clementine Usman-Wamba, announced the development during training of more than 50 set-top box installers and technicians in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
According to her, broadcasters would be shut out of analogue broadcasting transmission by 2028, hence the need for the training of installers that are professionals to assist in the process.
She said, “We are actually here in Ibadan to train installers specifically to be part of the Digital Switch Over process.We are doing it in conjunction with Nigeria Communication Satellite Limited, (NigComSat). It is a joint outreach that we are doing here today.”

She said that the installation of Free TV is to enable Nigerians to have access to many channels without subscription, noting that the NBC has embarked on the training of the installers of decoders and dishes nationwide for effective take off of the project.
