Galatasaray have rejected a bid of €125 million for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, reaffirming their determination to hold onto the Nigerian forward despite mounting pressure from European clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.

The offer, reported by Forza Cimbom, was immediately turned down by the Turkish champions, who have also previously rebuffed a €120 million proposal from Atletico Madrid.

Manchester United, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid all remain in pursuit of the 27-year-old, but Galatasaray have made clear that no offer below their asking price will be entertained.

It is a valuation that the Istanbul club feel is justified by Osimhen’s extraordinary output since arriving in Turkey.

FIFA images: Argentina’s forward Lionel Messi

It was a banner-day for a pair of FIFA World Cup greats.

Mercurial Argentina forward Lionel Messli became the tournament’s all-time top-scorer as he grabbed both goals in a 2-0 win over Austria, while Kylian Mbappe moved joint-second with two of his own.

Having started the day level with Miroslav Klose, La Pulga now stands alone with 18 goals but Mbappe showed that this heavyweight goal battle could go the full eight rounds until a potential New York New Jersey showdown on 19 July.

Prolific Norway marksman Erling Haaland showed that he, too, will be a prominent voice in the adidas Golden Boot conversation, scoring a second consecutive brace as Norway joined Argentina and France in qualifying for the Round of 32 as they edged Senegal by the odd goal in five.

Manchester United has taken a major step towards realising its ambitious plan to build a new world-class stadium, securing the majority of the land required for a 100,000-capacity arena near the iconic Old Trafford.

In a statement on the club’s official website, manutd.com, on Monday afternoon, said that Manchester United acquired a 25-acre site located approximately 350 metres north-west of the current stadium .

The move clears a significant hurdle in the club’s long-term vision to transform the Old Trafford area into one of the most dynamic sporting and entertainment destinations in the world.

The new stadium, expected to be the largest sporting arena in the UK, will serve as a catalyst for the broader regeneration of the surrounding district, as the club said it will engage directly with businesses impacted by the plans to support them through the transition period.

The CEO of Manchester United’s New Stadium Development, Collette Roche, described the development as a significant milestone.

“Today’s news highlights the progress we’re making towards a world-class new home for Manchester United and represents a significant milestone as we move into the next phase of development,” said Roche .

“Being able to build so close to Old Trafford allows us to preserve the heritage, traditions and rituals that are so important to our fans.

We are committed to building a world-class stadium with our supporters, not just for them, with atmosphere, affordability and accessibility at the heart of our thinking,” Roche added
