NCAA drags Fuji musician Kwam 1 to AGF, IGP after Abuja Airport incident
Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority Petitions AGF and Police to Investigate Fuji Star K1 De Ultimate Over Aircraft Obstruction
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has formally petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to investigate and prosecute Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate (Kwam 1), for allegedly obstructing an aircraft at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
This was disclosed in a statement by the NCAA on Thursday via X.
The petition follows confirmation by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, that K1 De Ultimate obstructed an aircraft and has since been placed on a no-fly list by Nigerian airline operators.
The NCAA said it has asked the AGF and the police to prosecute K1 under the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARs) 2023 and other relevant laws, describing the incident as a serious breach of aviation safety standards and airport protocols.
“The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has officially petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the incident involving musician King Wasiu Omagbolahan Olasunkanmi Adewale Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, and domestic airline ValueJet,” the NCAA wrote on X.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, May 5, 2025, when K1 De Ultimate was scheduled to board a ValueJet flight from Abuja to Lagos. Trouble erupted when he attempted to board with a flask containing more than the allowed 100 ml of liquid, violating aviation security rules.
During the ensuing confrontation with airport security, K1 De Ultimate reportedly poured the liquid—confirmed to be alcohol—on a security officer. He then defied security orders, exited the terminal onto the tarmac, and physically blocked the plane from taxiing after boarding was complete and the doors were closed.
Kwam 1 has denied any wrongdoing in a statement responding to the allegations.
Airlines operating in Nigeria have issued a stern warning of an indefinite shutdown of flights if ongoing disruptions by aviation unions are not urgently resolved.
Industry operators cited repeated industrial actions, including strikes and work-to-rule tactics by union members, as severely impacting flight schedules, passenger movements, and operational costs. The threatened action could ground both domestic and international flights across major airports, including Lagos and Abuja.
Airline representatives stated that prolonged union-related interruptions have already caused significant financial losses and eroded passenger confidence. They called on the federal government and relevant labour authorities to intervene immediately to prevent a total collapse of commercial air travel.
No specific deadline for the proposed shutdown has been publicly announced, but stakeholders described the situation as “critical.” Passengers have been advised to monitor airline communications closely for any developments.
Authorities and union leaders have yet to issue detailed responses. Further updates are expected as talks continue.
A fire has broken out at the Lagos Customs Command office, officials confirmed early Monday.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene as thick smoke rose from the building.
The cause of the blaze and the extent of the damage remain under investigation.
No immediate reports of casualties have been released. Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area while firefighters work to contain the flames.
