Senator Oluremi Tinubu Hails Nigerian Women’s Resilience, Calls for Greater Empowerment on International Women’s Day 2026
Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, today joined the global celebration of International Women’s Day, paying tribute to the extraordinary strength, courage, tenacity, and groundbreaking achievements of women and girls in Nigeria and worldwide.
In a commemorative message released on the occasion, the First Lady underscored the profound importance of this year’s United Nations-aligned theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls.”
She described the theme as a compelling call to recognize that advancing women’s rights and opportunities is fundamental to building a thriving society, rather than an optional gesture.
“Empowering women is not an act of charity; it is an investment in our collective future,” Senator Tinubu declared. “When we provide women with access to quality education, comprehensive healthcare, economic opportunities, platforms for leadership, and true justice and equity, we strengthen families, build more prosperous communities, and create a truly inclusive nation.
”The First Lady emphasized the ripple effect of women’s progress, stating emphatically: “When women rise, Nigeria rises!”
Her message aligns with ongoing national and global efforts to address persistent gender disparities, dismantle systemic barriers, and promote equal participation in all spheres of life.
It comes amid widespread commemorations across Nigeria, including high-profile events such as the celebration in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where the First Lady participated in activities highlighting women’s contributions and the need for sustained action on rights and justice.
Senator Tinubu’s statement reflects a broader push for inclusive policies that prioritize women’s education, economic independence, health, and protection from discrimination and violence—key pillars for sustainable national development.
Concluding her address with warm wishes, she added: “Happy International Women’s Day!”
