The clash that occurred between the police and members of the proscribed Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shiites, during a protest in Kaduna has claimed the lives of two people.

According to reports, the protesters, carrying banners with the image of their leader Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, were marching towards the office of the National Human Rights Commission to submit a letter in support of the people of Gaza in Palestine. The security operatives resisted the march, leading to a confrontation.

The eyewitness account suggests that during the clash, two people, including a commercial motorcyclist and another passer-by, were reportedly killed. The Police Public Relations Officer in Kaduna state, Mansir Hassan, has blamed the IMN members for the violence, accusing them of killing an innocent motorcycle operator named Sani Aliyu.

It’s important to note that conflicting narratives often emerge in situations like these, and the details may be subject to investigation and verification. The incident highlights the complexities surrounding protests, security measures, and the challenges of managing such situations peacefully. The actions and statements of both the police and the IMN are likely to be scrutinized as authorities investigate the incident and its causes.
