South-East Leaders To Meet Tinubu For Kanu’s Release – Ubah

The lawmaker representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Ifeanyi Ubah, says South-East leaders are set to meet with President Bola Tinubu to discuss possibility of releasing Nnamdi Kanu.
The leader of the Proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has been in detention for about two years now and Ubah believes his release will help reduce insecurity in the South-East geopolitical zone.
“There is a resolution that we are going to meet with the president and we will tick his leniency and see if it is going to be possible to plead with him to have Nnamdi Kanu released,” Ubah said on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday.
“We have taken that position and for also some of us in the Senate, we have our caucus, we have also taken that position.”
The lawmaker noted that Kanu’s release is part of the discussion to put on table once they are able to get into talks with the President.
He maintained that there is a connection between releasing the IPOB leader and the state of security in the South-East.
Ubah also said that Kanu is not in support of sit-at-home, adding that he has said it publicly in one of his appearances in court.
Further speaking, the lawmaker divorced Kanu’s agitation from the sit-at-home, lamenting that the recent surge of the sit-at-home order is stunting the growth of the economy of the zone.
“The agitation is different, we are talking about sit-at-home which is really deteriorating the economy of the southeast region. The agitation is a political issue about the inequities in how an Igbo man is seen in Nigeria,” he said.
Ubah also said that the South-East leaders are as well considering engaging with the government of Finland to probe sit-at-home crusader, Simon Ekpa.
“We also need to look at the young man that is in Finland that is causing all this problem and see how we can diplomatically engage the government of Finland and show them that he is not really giving a good service. Even though we don’t know if he has taken the nationality of Finland,” he said.
Last week, the Senator had warned Ekpa to carry the sit-at-home crusade to his home state of Ebonyi and leave Anambra State alone.

Fubara and Wike Spotted Together in Rivers State After Peace Talks

Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his predecessor FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and the suspended Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule again appeared in public together barely two days after a fresh round of peace talks at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The trio were seen together at a funeral service in Rumueprikom, Wike’s hometown in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Recall that the three key political figures in Rivers State have been locked in a political wrangling for almost two years.
Their being together comes in the wake of Thursday’s peace meeting brokered by President Bola Tinubu, which demanded an end to the lingering crisis between the Governor and his former political allies.
At the funeral service were key political stakeholders, including Senator Allwell Onyesoh, Senator George Thompson Sekibo, and Senator Olaka Nwogu.
Others include the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche; former House of Representatives Member, Hon. Ken Chikere; South-South Vice Chairman of the ACP, Victor Giadom; and former PDP Deputy National Chairman, Dr Sam Sam Jaja, among others.
Meanwhile, Governor Fubara is expected to hold a closed-door meeting today with his supporters, according to sources.
The meeting is intended to brief them on the outcome of the recent discussions with President Tinubu and Wike in Abuja.

Lagos State Government on Friday night directed the immediate re-opening of the Abbatoir at Oko-Oba following the fulflment of sanitation and hygienic prescriptions by the operators.
The announcement was made by the State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab in a statement he personally signed.
Mr Wahab said that the operators have substantially complied with the minimum benchmark for the operations of abbatoirs in the state which was flagrantly flouted necessitating the closure.
He informed that part of the conditions for the reopening is that on a monthly basis, the ministry of the Environment and Water Resources officials will conduct a periodic inspection of the facilities at the Abbatoir.
He urged the operators to avoid unsanitary activities, waste mismanagement and unhygienic handling of animal products as they conduct their businesses.
It will be recalled that the Oko-Oba Abbatoir was shut by the State Government on June 20 following an inspection by top State officials which discovered a flagrant disregard of the laws guiding safe operations of abbatoirs in the state.
