JUST IN: CAN Speaks on fatal accident involving Salvation Army and RCCG members along Benin-Ore Road
The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has said it received with shock the news of the tragic incidents that recently affected the Salvation Army and the Redeemed Christian Church of God RCCG, with great shock.
The fatal incident led to the loss of twelve pastors (Officers), a baby, and a driver in an accident near Benin City, Edo State.
CAN described the incident as a devastating blow to the congregation, the body of Christ in Nigeria and the nation at large.
“We stand with the Salvation Army during this very difficult time in prayer, asking that God comforts them and eases their pain. We also urge the government authorities to thoroughly investigate the accident to prevent a repeat of the episode,” a statement signed by Archbishop Daniel Okoh, its President, said.
CAN described the attack on worshippers at the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Abule-Ori, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, as an assault on religious freedom in Nigeria.
“We mourn the loss of the Pastor and condemn the kidnapping of worshippers who were simply exercising their religious freedom to worship,” the Christian body said.
“We commend security agencies for their swift response to the incident and call for intensified efforts to apprehend all the perpetrators.
“We urge the various security agencies to increase vigilance on places of worship during religious gatherings and provide adequate security measures for worshippers. CAN urges citizens not to be discouraged by recent losses but to continue to look up to God for help. Our thoughts and prayers are with the affected families and churches.
“May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace.”

BREAKING: Nigerian Airlines Threaten Indefinite Shutdown Over Union Disruptions
Airlines operating in Nigeria have issued a stern warning of an indefinite shutdown of flights if ongoing disruptions by aviation unions are not urgently resolved.
Industry operators cited repeated industrial actions, including strikes and work-to-rule tactics by union members, as severely impacting flight schedules, passenger movements, and operational costs. The threatened action could ground both domestic and international flights across major airports, including Lagos and Abuja.
Airline representatives stated that prolonged union-related interruptions have already caused significant financial losses and eroded passenger confidence. They called on the federal government and relevant labour authorities to intervene immediately to prevent a total collapse of commercial air travel.
No specific deadline for the proposed shutdown has been publicly announced, but stakeholders described the situation as “critical.” Passengers have been advised to monitor airline communications closely for any developments.
Authorities and union leaders have yet to issue detailed responses. Further updates are expected as talks continue.
