Basic Information about Tinubu’s SGF Appointee, George Akume
A former Minister of Special Duties, George Akume, was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday as Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF.
Shortly after four days in office, Tinubu has made several appointments, including the outgoing Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, as his new Chief of Staff and a former Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, Sen. Ibrahim Hadejia, as Deputy Chief of Staff.
Here are things you should know about Mr Akume
George Akume was born on December 27, 1953, and is from Wannune Tarka Council Area of Benue State.
He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Ibadan in 1978 and a Master’s degree in Industrial and Labour Relations from the same university in 1986.
Akume was a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and served as the Minority Leader of the Senate from June 2011 to June 2015.
He was also the Governor of Benue State from May 1999 to May 2007 and the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army.
Akume was re-elected Senator for Benue North-West in the April 2011 elections, running on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria. He won another term in 2015 but lost to Senator Orke Jev of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2019.
In 2019, President Buhari appointed Akume as Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs.

Bandits Abduct eight farmers in Wassagu Community
At least, eight farmers have been abducted by bandits in the Wasagu area of Kebbi State.
The fresh attack was confirmed by Chairman of Danko Wassagu Local Government, Hussaini Wasagu,.
The local government chairman said the attackers struck in the afternoon while farmers were on their fields.
According to him Eight farmers were taken away, and one person was shot,” he said.
He said the injured victim is receiving treatment at the Wasagu General Hospital, while the council are working with security agencies to ensure the safe return of those abducted.”
Community members say the gunmen, suspected to have crossed in from neighbouring Zamfara State, operated for several minutes before escaping with their victims.

Insecurity: Kebbi Shutdowns Tertiary Institutions Untill Further Notice
Consequently, all the students and staff on the campuses and off-campuses have been directed to vacate the campuses with immediate effect till further notice.

The Governor of Kebbi State, Dr. Nasir Idris , has ordered the immediate closure of all tertiary institutions in the state as a proactive measure to safeguard students in the institutions.
This is sequel to the spate of insecurity challenges in the state and some parts of the country .

Zamfara Police Rescues 25 Abduct By Bandits
During the attack, the assailants abducted ten (10) women along with fifteen (15) of their children, all residents of the community.
• Victims reunite with families
Zamfara State Police Command has rescued 25 abducted victims abducted by bandits at Kuraje village in the Damba area of Gusau LGA .
DSP Yazid Abubakar, Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the development to our reporter: “During the attack, the assailants abducted ten (10) women along with fifteen (15) of their children, all residents of the community.”
He said : ” On 21st November 2025 at about 2145hrs, a group of armed bandits in large numbers, wielding dangerous weapons and firing sporadically, attacked
Upon receiving the distress report, joint Police patrol teams from Damba Division and the Department of Operations, Gusau—working in collaboration with the Community Protection Guards (CPG)—swiftly mobilized to the scene.
The team confirmed the incident, pursued the fleeing bandits, and engaged them in a coordinated and strategic operation.
Thanks to the professionalism, gallantry, and swift response of the operatives, all twenty-five (25) abducted victims were successfully rescued unhurt.
They were immediately relocated to Sabongari Damba for safety and proper profiling.
The rescued women and children have since been reunited with their families.
The Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, commends the bravery and dedication of the officers involved in the operation.
He reassures the public of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.”
