Food Security: Ekiti set up storage facilities for bumper harvest
The Ekiti State government has set up storage facilities in different parts of the state, with the sole aim of buying farm produce from farmers during harvest season and storing them for release during period of scarcity.
This ccomes with a move to ensuring food sufficiency and availability in the state.
The State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, who on Monday led some officials on inspection of one of the storage facilities for agricultural produce in Ado- Ekiti, said building the storage facilities is one of the government’s plans to avert the food scarcity that was experienced in the state last year.
Governor Oyebanji said government’s immediate focus is to address food shortage, reduce post-harvest losses and ensure food sufficiency all year round across the state.
Speaking with Journalists shortly after the inspection, Governor Oyebanji who was accompanied on the inspection by his Chief of Staff, Mr Niyi Adebayo, Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Boluwade Ebenezer, Commissioner for Trade, investment and cooperatives, Mrs Tayo Adeola, said the initiative was in line with the directive of President Bola Tinubu to the State Governors to prioritize food security as critical step in combating hunger across the country.
The Governor, explained that the state cultivated over 6,000 hectares of farmland in 2024, adding that the warehouse for storing food crops was a major challenge, hence the decision of his administration to provide storage facilities this year.
The facilities, according the Governor would help in regulating prices of food items in the eventuality of food scarcity.
While expressing his delight that a large chunk of the farm produce were bought from young farmers under the Bring Back Youth in Agriculture programme , the Governor assured that his administration remains committed to alleviating hunger and achieving food security in the state.
“We promised Ekiti State good governance and like you said we have been trying to work that talk. The President directed that each state should embark on strategy of food security and in Ekiti State in the last one year, we have started with phase one of a very deliberate attempt to ensure that we prow ourselves out of hunger, last year we cumulatively cultivated over 6,000 hectares of land in the state, all planted.
“Going forward, we want to ensure that, those crops that we buy from the youth, store them there and we will release to the market when there is increase in prices of food so that we can moderate prices”. The Governor stated .
In his own remarks, the Commissioner for Agriculture and food security, Mr Ebenezer Boluwade said that the goal is not only to tackle hunger but to also create opportunities for youth in agriculture.
While explaining that the initiative would ensure steady food supply throughout the year, Mr Boluwade said government would encourage farmers, particularly the youths in agriculture to increase production, knowing that their produce would not go to waste and government is willing and ready to buy from them.

Kogi Harvests First Greenhouse Cucumbers at Federal University Lokoja
Fanwo said that the agricultural revolution in Kogi State under the administration of Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo was inspired by the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Agriculture, which places emphasis on supporting states to produce what Nigerians eat and eat what Nigerians produce.
The Kogi State Government on Thursday successfully harvested the first greenhouse-grown cucumbers at the Federal University, Lokoja.
The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, said : ” A total of 260 kilograms of cucumbers was harvested. The harvest is expected to continue weekly for the next three months before another crop will be planted.”
Fanwo disclosed that the harvesting was supervised by representatives of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo – the Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management, Engr. Olusegun Joseph, and the State ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto.
He emphasised that the success of the greenhouse project underscores Governor Ododo’s commitment to promoting food security, tackling food inflation, and ensuring sustainable prosperity for the people of Kogi State.
“Our women and youths are now at the forefront of Kogi’s agricultural revolution,” he said.
Fanwo said that the agricultural revolution in Kogi State under the administration of Alh. “Mr President has empowered the State and has energized the agricultural sector with his policies and support. The project is currently been implemented in the three senatorial zones of the State.
“Through ACReSAL, thousands of farmers are being empowered across the State, and Kogi is fast becoming a model of agricultural resilience and productivity.
“We didn’t just go to Lagos to sign the Food For Lagos Partnership just for the television flashes. We are back home to walk our talk and become the noiseless food basket of Nigeria”, he said.

Police Obeys Court Order to Suspend Tinted Glass Permits Enforcement
The court issued the interim order during a hearing in Suit No. FHC/WR/CS/103/2025 instituted by John Aikpokpo-Martins against the IGP and the police.
The Nigeria Police Force has announced the suspension of vehicle tinted glass permit because of a court order halting the enforcement for now.
Spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh confirmed the suspension on Wednesday, October 8.
Recall Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, last week ordered the Nigeria Police Force and the Inspector-General of police (IGP) to suspend the enforcement of the tinted glass permit across the country.
The court ordered the police and the IGP to maintain the status quo and “respect judicial processes pending further proceedings in the matter.”
The court issued the interim order during a hearing in Suit No. FHC/WR/CS/103/2025 instituted by John Aikpokpo-Martins against the IGP and the police.

The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Geoffrey Nnaji, says his resignation from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet is not an admission of guilt but a personal choice.
Nnaji, who was appointed in August 2023, announced his resignation in a letter to the President on Tuesday, expressing appreciation for the opportunity to serve.
This is contained in a statement he signed in Abuja.
Nnaji was appointed as minister by the administration of President Bola Tinubu in August 2023, but resigned amidst controversies surrounding allegations of certificate forgery.
He noted that over the past week, an orchestrated, sustained campaign of falsehood, politically motivated, and malicious attacks was waged against him across print, electronic and social media platforms.
Nnaji emphasized that these unfounded allegations and media distortions not only caused personal distress but also distracted him from work.
He had put in five decades building a reputation anchored on hard work, honour and service to humanity.
Nnaji said that he could not, in good conscience, allow these distortions to cast a shadow over the noble objectives of the present administration.
“My decision to step aside is therefore a personal choice, not an admission of guilt. It is a principled decision to respect the sanctity of due process and to preserve the integrity of the judicial proceedings currently before the court, ” he said.
Nnaji expressed optimism that in the end, justice will vindicate the just.
