The Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga has refuted claims of any intention to relocate the Federal Capital to Lagos, labeling the allegations as politically motivated tactics by opponents, in response to recent allegations.

According to the statement on his official X account, Onanuga criticizes those perpetuating the allegations as dishonest actors seeking attention through ethnic and regional divides.

He says it’s a rumor that initially emerged during the 2023 election campaign

Emphasizing the legal establishment of Abuja as the capital, the spokesperson downplays concerns over the recent relocation of FAAN and select CBN departments to Lagos, highlighting the pragmatic nature of the decisions with FAAN situated closer to the aviation industry hub in Lagos and CBN departments aligned with the commercial banks headquartered in the city

Onanuga urges an end to the politicization of administrative decisions and what he calls “dirty politics” while calling for constructive dialogue instead.
